Infinite Jest

—/5 ⭐

I can’t rate this book because I did not finish it, but I thought I would post it anyway.

Maybe I am too dumb to understand this book, or maybe this book is just dumb.

I have all the usual complaints somebody would expect from a 1000+ page book that seems to be going nowhere fast: excessive overwriting, repeating the same point ad nauseum, wafer thin plot, a massive footnotes bank (WHY?).

There were moments that were entertaining, funny, and strange in the best way, but it was surrounded by so much meandering, repetitive nonsense I couldn’t get through it.

From all the positive reviews on Goodreads, there must be something I am missing. Maybe I will take another crack at it in a few years; until then, I’ll read something that doesn’t give me a headache.
