The Island of Dr. Moreau

"Are we not men?"

Much darker and stranger in the H.G. Wells lineup than "The Invisible Man" or "War of the Worlds" -- both of which I loved. I didn't enjoy this one as much as either of those, but still had a good time.

I used to love shipwrecked/survival type stories ("Hatchet" was one of the first books I was obsessed with as a kid), but after trying and failing to finish "Robinson Crusoe" and having mixed feelings about this one, it might be time to remove survival stories from my rotation.

I think the chimney smoke ended up looking more like a ghost and less like a skull. Luckily both images do fine sybmolizing death.
